Barnard Castle area map circa 1900. Percy Beck Viaduct can be seen just to the west of the station and the original station, a goods station by this time is at the bottom of the map.

Barnard Castle's first station closed in 1861 after only five years of operating, although it did last for goods until 1965.

Brampton Junction circa 1900.
The Newcastle & Carlisle Railway runs from top right to bottom left, the private Brampton & Hartleburn Railway
ran from the right (to Lambley)to top left (Brampton Town Station) most of the route of this unusual private enterprise is easily traceable.
